How does Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture work?

There are several ways acupuncture works for cosmetic purposes...

1. Balances the whole body:

Traditional Chinese Medicine regards beauty and overall health with a holistic perspective. This means that both internal and external aspects of wellness - digestion, circulation, metabolism, and mental health - cannot be separated from beauty.

2. Improves the long term health of skin:

By causing micro-trauma with the insertion of needles, facial rejuvenation acupuncture encourages the natural production of newer, stronger elastin fibres and collagen.

3. Improves facial musculature:

By addressing the muscles in the face, facial rejuvenation acupuncture stimulates or relaxes tension in the face depending on the individual’s needs and concerns.

How is the treatment done?

Cosmetic acupuncture is performed by inserting hair-fine, sterile, disposable acupuncture needles into the skin at different areas of the face and body. This helps to stimulate blood flow and collagen production to the face while balancing the whole body. Specific areas are targeted for direct treatment on the face while body points are selected that will support the underlying issues that are manifesting on the face.

Do you offer a consultation?

Yes, I offer a free consultation if you are new to my practice via video link where we can go over the treatment options to determine the best treatment plan for your specific needs, to achieve the best results.

Does it hurt?

No, not at all.  The treatment is very relaxing and comfortable.  I use the absolute smallest needles on the market, so most people don't feel anything at all. Acupuncture treatments are extremely relaxing for most people and many people fall asleep on the table.

I've had botox and or fillers is it okay for me to get treatment?

It is fine to have cosmetic acupuncture four weeks post either of these injections, this provides enough time for the product to settle without risking migration.

How many treatments do I need?

Like most acupuncture treatments, results of cosmetic rejuvenation treatments are cumulative. A typical treatment plan includes 10 treatments.

Weekly sessions are usually recommended to start to rev up your body’s collagen production, circulation, and cell turnover. After that, we can reassess and discuss how the treatments are going to decide how frequent the follow up appointments should be in order to achieve your goals.

How long should I come for treatment before a big event like a wedding?

You should consider a course of treatment leading up to a big event such as a wedding. Completion should be about three to four weeks before the date to ensure any small bruises fade.

Is there downtime?

No, however it’s advised to avoid wearing makeup after treatment. You have just had tiny needles inserted which caused micro holes in skin, applying makeup over these areas might cause an issue. (infection from make brush)

What if I bruise easily?

The face is delicate. I use the lightest touch possible to avoid bruising, however this may still happen. I would recommend taking arnica (oral form) before and having arnica cream on hand if you do bruise easily.

How long is the treatment?

Standard treatment is 60 minutes. This involves needling acupuncture points on the face specific to rejuvenation. Then enjoy a lovely guasha and facial massage with fabulous products.

Advanced treatment is 90 minutes. This involves needling acupuncture points for facial rejuvenation and additional dermal needles placed in deeper lines and wrinkles, followed by guasha and facial massage with fabulous products. This is a longer treatment due to process of inserting several tiny needles. The advantage provides a deeper enhanced approach to fading lines around the eyes, forehead, between the eyebrows and nasal folds.

Will it provide a face lift?

No, cosmetic acupuncture will not get the same results as a face lift.  Results are subtle in comparison to cosmetic surgery.  However, it is very typical to knock 5 to 8 years off your appearance with continued weekly treatments.

This is a rejuvenation treatment and cosmetic surgery results should not be expected.  Cosmetic acupuncture results are slower and less pronounced than with surgical or laser procedures, dermal fillers, or botox.  So, don’t expect the same level of change or the immediate results received from these other therapies.  However, cosmetic acupuncture is a great non-surgical alternative to a healthier and younger looking appearance without the added chemicals.

What products do you use?

I use the finest cosmetic needles available in the UK. For guasha I use Virajati Illuminate Face oil created in small batches at Moksa, to complete the massage I use a hyaluronic acid face cream.

You can expect some of these results

  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduction of puffiness under the eyes and around the face
  • Reduction of sagging jowls and eyelids
  • Reduction of dark circles
  • Improved facial muscle tone and elasticity
  • Improved circulation to the face resulting in improved facial colour and vibrancy
  • Reduction in age spots and redness
  • Reduction of stress in the face and body
  • Improvement of overall health and energy
